Abstract
In today's technological world, different aspects of concrete are developing with a remarkable pace and novel applications are appeared and proposed to the construction field. Rockwool is consisted of very fine monofilaments of basalte rock. Thermal insulating properties of rockwool and insulating concrete as a building material were the main increments for conducting this research thesis. In this research, rockwool was used to design mix proportions and run some specialized tests. 9 different mix designs containing 0.5 to 5 volume percentages of rockwool was defined and fabricated and subjected to compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength and thermal durability test. The results showed that increasing rockwool content up to 4 volume percent leads to the reduction of compressive and flexural strengths. Nevetheless, thermal stability of specimens increased substantially as the rockwool content increased, so in 2% volumetric percentage of rockwool, after the curing period, up to 14.7% strength increase was observed.
